OATS, Inc. Celebrates Cedar/Vernon County Driver for 20 Years of Service

February 2, 2009

It was January 26, 1989 when Mary Gannaway returned home to care for her father. A neighbor was driving for OATS at the time, and suggested that Mary apply for a relief driver position. Twenty years later, Mary proudly celebrates her milestone anniversary with the company.

Mary says one of the best parts of working for OATS is being on the go with people and Mary Gannawayhelping them with groceries, medical appointments or whatever she can do for them in the way of transportation. She says she has made a lot of friends over the years, and that “OATS is a rewarding job in that you can get paid for doing something that someone needs.”

As a Team Leader for several counties, Mary also enjoys getting acquainted with all the drivers in the 7-county area. In addition to her position as Team Leader, she drives for Cedar and Vernon counties.

Daryl Sivard, a co-worker of Mary’s says, “Personally, I have had the opportunity to work with Mary on several projects in my short time here. As a driver, a Team Leader and as a volunteer, she is very well liked by all of her riders and comrades. She is, in my opinion, a very dedicated and loyal driver who naturally demonstrates her love for OATS.”

In her spare time Mary reads, with her most recent interest being in ancient texts. She lives on a farm in the house she grew up in, and takes pleasure from watching the slow and natural movement of the land, the birds and the cattle. In the summer she enjoys planting and yard work, and getting together with family.

Mary says of her time with OATS that it “has been and is a pleasure that people should experience in their occupation. I am proud to work for them, and want to especially thank Linda Yaeger for doing all she’s done for the company. Working for this corporation proves that putting the customers’ best interests first is foremost to growing and growing old.”
