OATS Celebrates Couple's Service to Knox and Lewis Counties for Last 20 Years
June 24, 2010
After having lived in the Knox and Lewis area all their lives, Norman and Frances Adams began working for OATS when Norman’s brother, Walter, needed a relief driver. Norman, a lifelong farmer, and Frances, an employee and owner at Canton Auto Supply, evidently found something they liked. After 20 years of working with OATS, the couple still can’t get enough of the job. “We like meeting the people. We like helping people,” says Norman. For Norman and Frances, what they like hasn’t changed for over 20 years, even while the paper work, rules and regulations, training and Medicaid have. Frances agrees, “What matters is just being with old friends everyday.”
The couple will soon be celebrating one more thing in August: their 60th wedding
anniversary. Sure to be celebrating with them are their three adopted children, five granddaughters and one grandson. “Our family is very loving,” says Frances, “That’s what we like most about them.” Another thing that hasn’t changed over the years.
When they aren’t working at OATS, Norman likes to spend his free time meeting up with friends, while Frances enjoys music, sewing and reading, as well as visiting with friends. But, probably their favorite thing to do in their free time is helping out the Amish in the community. They help them with just about anything: moving to new buildings, moving lumber and machinery, and helping them get to their destinations. Norman and Frances are always finding ways to help out and keep busy.
“They have an excellent work ethic, and they are very capable,” says Sheree Webb, Northeast Regional Director for OATS. “I am very fortunate to have this couple driving for me because there is no task they cannot do! They are caring and provide our clients—whom they think of as family--with outstanding service. They are very loved!”
