Associate Excellence Continues – OATS, Inc.

August 18, 2011

If you or someone you know has had the OATS experience, it’ll come as no surprise that the associates strive for a high level of excellence in the quality of service they provide. In this vein, OATS, Inc. is pleased to announce the certification of two more Area Managers by the CTAA (Community Transportation Association of America). After a 40-hour week’s worth of training, Dan Asewe of OATS’ East Region, and Steve Bush of OATS’ Midwest Region have passed the national Certified Community Transit Manager (CCTM) exam. This brings the total number of OATS CCTMs to fourteen.

The CTAA describes this certified status as a “mark of the greatest performance and highest efficiency in the industry” and “proof of the ability to manage a comprehensive and dynamic community transportation system.” In order to become certified, applicants are required to receive training in areas such as Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Transit Development and others. Applicants are also required to pass a three-hour long test that includes writing essays over each of the areas.

Asewe, originally from Kenya and an associate of OATS for three years, credits this certification as one that will help him better satisfy the needs of the people OATS serves.  “The training taught us more about what’s required from the government and the state, which ultimately enables us to serve the people better.”

Bush, who has been with OATS for just over a year, says “It is imperative that we continue to look for – and find – ways to deliver efficient and effective means of public transportation on which so many people rely. The resources and credibility that the CCTM provides to me and my colleagues will help us find those innovative ways to sustain and enhance those essential services for years to come.”

Both area managers agree that the real goal is to find ways to better serve those who need the OATS’ services. “The best thing about OATS is that we serve people,” says Asewe. “People who without us don’t have the ability to go to doctor, work or fulfill their shopping needs. Its something I really value and that most people take for granted; it’s really fulfilling.”
