Carolyn Toney began working for OATS as a relief driver in 1981 when her husband, who was driving for OATS at the time, developed health problems that prevented him from continuing to drive. At the time, Carolyn drove part-time but soon after became a full-time associate.
“It’s a great company” says Carolyn. “They’ve always been really good to work with and
I appreciate all of them.”
Carolyn says what she enjoys most about working with OATS is being able to help people. “I’ve learned a lot from [the riders]. They have a lot of wit and stories.” Carolyn says many of her riders make her smile throughout her day. “There is one lady, Ruth McLaughlin, who always has an upbeat attitude. She is fun and jokes around and she stands out because of her fun attitude. She has been riding with me for several years now.”
Married for 44 years, Carolyn and her husband Mike have four children, 15 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. All of her family lives within 5 miles so she and her husband get to spend a lot of time with them. When they are not working, Carolyn and Mike sing gospel music and Mike writes much of the music they perform. The two travel throughout several states to perform and also make appearances locally at small town celebrations such as the Bethany Fair and the Chautauqua in Gallatin.
Beth Langley, Northwest Regional Director for OATS says “Carolyn works well with her county committee to keep them on the go. She is a pleasure to work with and always has a kind word to say about her riders. She is very dependable and caring.”
