Thirty years ago, Beverly Scott accompanied one of her close friends during her search for employment. One of the places they stopped to seek job opportunities was OATS. After seeing the ideal work environment and learning about the services OATS provides for the people of Missouri, Beverly also became inspired. She told OATS she would like to be considered for a position with them as well. Coming up this March 30th, Beverly will be celebrating her 30-year anniversary as a driver for OATS.
Beverly says her favorite thing about OATS is…everything. “I like driving, going places and seeing new things,†Beverly says. Before she got the job with OATS, she worked mostly at home. She spent a lot of her time taking care of her daughter, doing laundry and gardening. Now that her daughter has grown up she notes, “I’m just here by myself.†But OATS has given her a refreshing opportunity to get out of the house, talk to interesting people and travel to places she’s never been before. “It’s kind of neat,†she says.
When she’s not driving for OATS in Daviess County, you can usually find Beverly outside somewhere. She loves to garden and enjoys taking nature walks. Spending time outside has always been a leisure activity Beverly does not take for granted. She says her love for the outdoors is one of the reasons she likes to drive for OATS. “When you’re driving down the road, you feel like you’re outside.â€
Beverly says she has learned a lot from working with OATS. Her job as a driver has taken her down many country roads that she would not normally drive on. It has taken her to places she wouldn’t normally travel to. It has opened up a door of new experiences and great relationships that she will always remember and cherish.
Beverly has enjoyed working for OATS these past 30 years. She has gained so much in so many different aspects of her life while driving for OATS. “It doesn’t even seem like a job,†says Beverly. She has been a dedicated employee and has seen OATS go through several changes over the years. Beverly has grown from all of these changes.
Northwest Regional Director, Beth Langley says, “She has done several different jobs during her tenure. Many consider Beverly to be a breeze to work with. She is known for tackling each day with confidence and a joyful spirit. Her riders enjoy her sense of humor and her stories, and she always brings a smile to your face when you see her.â€
